Q: What is a short code?
A short code is basically a 5-6 digit phone number. Most handhelds produced within
the past 5-6 years can text to a short code. If you're having difficulty, please
contact your service provider to see if there are any software updates for your
phone.
Q: Ok, so what is Mobile Campus' short code?
You can text into Mobile Campus by sending a message to 65586.
Q: What carriers does Mobile Campus work with?
Mobile Campus can deliver messages to subscribers on AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon
Wireless, Sprint, Nextel, Boost, Dobson, Cellular One, Alltel, US Cellular, and
Centennial Wireless.
Please note that even though we don't support your carrier, we may still be able
to send a message to your device. Give it a shot, text our short code: 65586 with
the message "Help" to see if you get a response. Don't worry, you won't be signed
up for anything. If you do get a response, it works!
Q: What about users with prepaid plans?
Most of the time, we can deliver to prepaid devices. The prepaid plan must be through
one of the carriers mentioned above.
Q: What will it cost me?
Mobile Campus = Freedom…from premium charges. Check with your wireless carrier
regarding out of network text charges. So outside of your carrier charges for standard
text messaging/other charges which may apply there will be no fee from Mobile Campus.
Q: Who pays for the messages I receive?
Based on your text plan this will vary. If you have a "bucket" plan the texts you
receive will be covered by your plan. An exclusive MC offer to your favorite pizza
place could save you as much as a month's worth of text messaging! If you don't
have a bucket plan call your carrier to find the best plan for you.
MC Tip: Talk a lot and text a lot? I bet you do. In March of 2008, many wireless
carriers began offering "unlimited" plans for BOTH text messaging and voice
calls. Call your carrier for details.
Q: I got a text message from Mobile Campus, but don't understand the abbreviations...
We try our hardest to deliver a clear and concise message, sometimes though 160
characters just aren’t enough. Enter the word from the text message in the text
box below and then click "look up" to get it's full meaning.
Q: What does the "Remember Me" option do?
When you select "Remember Me" while logging into Mobile Campus we store your cellphone
number in a tiny, but very yummy, cookie.
We DO NOT store your password or any other confidential information.
Please DO NOT select this option if you are using a public computer.
Q: Once I login how do I choose my preferences?
Mobile Campus is all about democracy. If you don’t like something, change it! After
you login, go to the Account page and then select "Interests" to select what you
want to receive. You will ONLY receive texts from the categories that matter to
you. You can change these preferences at anytime.
Q: How many offers will I receive a day?
You can receive 0-2 offers a day, however if you are interested in increasing this
number you have that option too. You will see this option during registration and
can change it at any time.
Q: How do I redeem the offers?
Just show the text message on your phone to the retailer offering the discount when
you redeem, or use a promotional code for online offers. It's that easy.
Q: Can I limit the number of notifications I receive from my groups?
Yes, and you can also choose groups you'd like to receive messages from and/or no
groups at all. You will see these options during registration.
Q: I'm not a member of a student group so is Mobile Campus even worth signing up
for?
Yes, actually many students are not involved in any groups. You can take advantage
of our group feature with a small group of friends, your dormitory or a athletic
team. You can essentially receive a unique key word and start a group for anything
you’d like. We have small groups of friends all that up to entire schools that leverage
this group feature. Even if you don’t take advantage of the group feature you can
utilize MC for basic information like weather and receive really cool offers from
your favorite places.
“But honestly go get involved in something, even if it is the Dance Revolution club.”
Q: Once I sign up can I ever opt-out?
Simply reply STOP to any text message and you will be taken out of our system. If
texting isn't your style, visit our
opt-out page.
You can also login into your profile and set your preferences so you just receive
the information you want! Or, you can
contact us.
Q: I'm a group administrator at my campus... how do I create a group?
Not a problem. First, join Mobile Campus. Then, navigate to the "Groups" section
within "My Campus." Then click on the "Create Group" link.
Q: Ok, so what's the difference between a "private" and "public" group?
A "private" group means that you must approve anyone that wants to join your group.
A "public" groups is exactly the opposite, anyone can join.
Q: What is a group keyword and why should I care?
A group keyword allows you to promote your Mobile Campus group effectively offline.
Students can text into Mobile Campus with your keyword to either join or retrieve
your latest message.
Group keywords all start with "mc" and cannot be a term that may be associated with
a corporate identity.
Q: Can I send a message out to my group from my cellphone?
Absolutely. We aren't Mobile Campus for nothing. While creating your group you were
given a "pin" code (this can also be retrieved under the "Manage Group" section).
To send a message, simply send a text message to Mobile Campus with the messaging
starting off with the pin and then type the message to your group.
For example, if your pin was @abc123 you would send a text to 65586 with the message
"@abc123 Hey group! Don’t forget about tonight's meeting!". When we receive a message
with that PIN code, we ensure that the message is only coming from an administrator.
Once we verify the sender, the message is immediately copied to all group members.
Q: Alright, I give up... how do I get on The Board?
There are many ways you can get on the board. Before you can do anything, though,
you must create a Mobile Campus account. After you do that, anything that you text
into Mobile Campus could appear on the board. This includes when you text into our
short code 65586 for information like weather, traffic, magic8, request an offer
by texting a merchant key word, communicating with a public group or by simply making
a "shout out."
You can make a shout out to the board by texting Mobile Campus short code: 65586
with the message starting off with an exclamation mark (!). Try it out, text "!this
is a shout out to the board." to our short code 65586.
Q: Are there any restrictions as to what I can post to The Board?
The Board is pretty open to the Mobile Campus community. However, any messages related
to illegal activity will not be posted and/or extreme profanity will be removed.
Keep it mature folks, mkay?
